Open Heart Surgery Theatre aims to give fair wages to artists and to work towards sustainable design - your support makes this possible!

We’re thrilled to announce our world premiere of ERASED happening this fall 2024! However, due to the precarious funding landscape in this country, we did not get our full funding to make this project possible – we need your help to fill this gap if we’re going to make this project a success.

ERASED, a new work by COLEEN MACPHERSON, is a thrilling, absurdist physical theatre piece that brings us into the uncanny world of a greeting card factory, where workers negotiate their relationship to a system of power only to learn that people are being "disappeared". We are excited about creating a sustainable design for our production and will be working with York University to host two post-show talking circles with food and invited guests. This is an ambitious piece, bringing together a large creative team of 18 performers, designers, and artists who are essential in bringing this story to life. ERASED is an urgent call in a time of ever-increasing violence, to imagine another possible future and to ignite our desire for a better world.

It’s important to us that we fairly compensate all the artists we work with, offering Equity and ADC rates. With this in mind, the total personnel cost of ERASED for a four week rehearsal process and two week run at a professional theatre in Toronto before costumes, set, and other costs is $99,482. And we are looking to you to help us raise one-quarter of this total amount. Check out the different ways to contribute below.
